Aleppo - SMART

On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, the Syrian government forces shelled a Turkish military base in the Afrin area in Aleppo, Northern Syria. Turkish Army artillery forces responded to the shelling in the villages of Kashta'ar and Uqayba.

On Thursday, a Free Syrian Army (FSA) commander reported a Turkish officer as saying that the Syrian government forces shelled the village of Basulhaya and the Turkish base in the village of Julbul with artillery and tank missiles. The commander noted that the Syrian government forces shelled the Turkish base to cover for six of their members who attempted to infiltrate Basulhaya.

The unidentified commander added that the Turkish Army detected the Syrian government forces' infiltration attempt, which started in the village Abyan. The commander noted that the Turkish Army killed four members of the Syrian government forces.

In mid-March 2018, the FSA factions and Turkish Army gained control of the Afrin area after launching the Olive Branch operation against the People's Protection Units.
