Free Syrian Army denies killing two FSA fighters by SDF in Afrin, Aleppo

On Friday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that their fighters killed two fighters of the al-Sultan Murad Division of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the Afrin area,43 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria.

The SDF are mainly comprised of the Kurdish People's Protection Units in addition to Arab, Turkmen, and Assyrian/Syriac military factions. The SDF is supported by the United States-backed International Coalition against the Islamic State and fought them in al-Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Aleppo, and al-Hasakah in Northeastern Syria.

The SDF added that their fighters ambushed a group of fighters of the al-Sultan Murad Division near the village of Za’ra in Nhaiyat Bulbul, 29 kilometers north of Afrin. The SDF noted that clashes erupted between the two sides following the ambush, killing two FSA fighters. The SDF reported nothing about their casualties.  

The manager of the media office in the al-Sultan Murad Division negated the SDF’ account, emphasizing that no military action took place in the area.

On Wednesday, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) said that they targeted FSA military vehicles in the Afrin area, killing and injuring nine fighters.

On July 6, 2018, FSA factions combed mountains, Southern the Nahiyat Rajo after killing two YPG fighters and capturing a third. The FSA factions also conducted security campaigns to chase YPG groups. The YPG continues to claim responsibility for attacks against the FSA; however, the latter denies the attacks.
