Idlib - SMART

On Sunday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) detained a doctor near the city of Idlib, Northern Syria.

The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.

A well-informed source reported that the HTS security service detained Dr. Abdo Najar on his way to work in the hospital of the village of Deir Hassan in the Nahiyat al-Dana, Northern Idlib. The source reported nothing about Dr. Najar's charges.

The source suspected that the HTS will release Dr. Najar later on Sunday or Monday after interrogating him on certain subjects unknown to the source.

Dr. Najar comes from the village of Maarrat al-Na'san in Eastern Idlib and specializes in heart diseases and intensive care. He worked in the hospital of the city of Maarrat al-Nu'man in Southern Idlib. Today marked the first day of Dr. Najar's work in Deir Hassan.

The HTS has detained several medical, media and humanitarian staff on different charges recently. On Nov. 19, 2018, the HTS detained Abdulrazak Awad, the manager of the relief project in the Violet Organization on charges of embezzlement. The HTS released Awad after ten days of detention when the Violet Organization submitted documents proving Awad's innocence.
