Deir al-Zor - SMART

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) clash with the Islamic State (IS), killing several IS members in the city of Hajin, 95 kilometers east of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

The SDF commander Abdul Karim al-Fandi told SMART on Monday that the Jaysh al-Thuwar of the SDF, backed by International Coalition warplanes, clashed with members of the IS in Hajin, killing dozens of IS members.

Al-Fandi said that the Jaysh al-Thuwar and local SDF allies from the al-Shaaytat area seized two IS Hummer vehicles, five passenger cars, and six trucks, as the clashes continued near the city market.

A day earlier, the SDF attacked the IS-controlled city from the Tall al-Jaabi area toward the city's eastern entrance, covered by International Coalition warplanes that intensively raided the area.

On Nov. 28, 2018, the deputy commander of the Jaysh al-Thuwar, Ahmad al-Sultan, announced that the faction sent 300 members fully equipped with arms and vehicles to the Hajin area to lay siege to the IS inside its last stronghold.

On Nov. 11, 2018, the SDF announced resuming their military operations against the IS in the Deir al-Zor governorate, after stopping for about 13 days due to Turkish attacks against SDF-controlled villages east of the Euphrates river.
