Daraa - SMART

Activists in the governorate of Daraa, Southern Syria, documented that the Syrian government forces arrested dozens of young men in two days to enlist them in military service. Lists of hundreds of wanted men for recruitment were also issued.

On Monday, the Documentation Office in Daraa said that the Syrian government forces arrested more than 70 people, including civilians and former Free Syrian Army fighters in the past two days, to enlist them in military service.

The Documentation Office said that the arrests included the city of Daraa and the towns of al-Yadudah, al-Muzayrib, Tal Shihab, Tasil, Sahem al-Golan, and Sheikh Saad.

SMART has also seen a list issued by the Jasim police station of the Syrian government. The list includes about 800 young men wanted for military service, most of them were born between 1987 and 1990.

Earlier, local sources reported that the Syrian government handed lists of 200 young men wanted for the same reason to the local mayor of Jasim town to inform them.

A few months ago, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions in Daraa, Southern Syria, reached a final agreement with Russia. The agreement will be applied in the entire Daraa governorate, except its northwestern countryside, and includes a ceasefire and FSA fighters handing over their heavy weapons. The agreement also includes that the fighters who refuse to sign it will be displaced to Northern Syria.
