Deir al-Zor - SMART

Members from the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, which is a sectarian militia classified as a terrorist group in a large number of Arab and Western countries and has been fighting alongside the Syrian government forces against peaceful movements since March 2013, seized a civilian house by force in the city of Albu Kamal, Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

On Tuesday, local sources told SMART that the militia members seized the house of Nabil al-Manfi to turn it into a militia headquarter in the security zone of the city.

The sources said that al-Manfi went to check up on his house and found Hezbollah militia members that turned the house into a military base, adding that the Hezbollah militia prohibited people from entering the security area.

An eyewitness told SMART that Hezbollah installed dirt barriers at the entrance of the al-Shuhadaa Street near the market in the al-Katef neighborhood in the Albu Kamal city center to prevent civilians from entering the street.

Earlier, Syrian government forces officers seized several civilians' houses in the city 122 kilometers southeast of Deir al-Zor.

On Nov. 21, 2017, the Syrian government forces and their allied militias seized control of Albu Kamal after the Islamic State withdrew from the city. After the Syrian government forces seized the city, several private and public properties were destroyed and the houses of former Free Syrian Army members were looted.
