Turkey - SMART

On Tuesday, civil society organizations condemned arbitrary arrests and kidnappings against humanitarian workers in Northern Syria.

The Syrian Coalition of Nongovernmental Organizations published a statement on their website saying that the perpetrators of arrests and kidnappings must stop targeting humanitarian workers and release the detained workers instantly.

The statement called on the local authorities to take control of the security situation in areas outside of the Syrian government control in Northern Syria and demanded the United Nations to play a more active role in protecting humanitarian facilities and workers.

The Syrian Coalition of Nongovernmental Organizations is a gathering of non-governmental civil society organizations that are concerned about humanitarian work. The coalition is based in the Turkish city of Gaziantep.

Earlier, humanitarian organizations and medical establishments went on strike to protest assaults and arrests against their staff by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham or Free Syrian Army factions in Idlib and Aleppo.

Unknown shooters continue to arrest or kidnap medical staff employees and humanitarian organizations members, in Northern Syria,  on different charges.
