Aleppo - SMART

The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) blew up three bridges linking its controlled areas with areas controlled by the Syrian government in Southern Aleppo, Northern Syria, after farmers had restored the bridges.

The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.

On Tuesday, local activists reported that on Sunday, the HTS blew up three concrete bridges over the Queiq River. The bridges link agricultural lands in the HTS-controlled village of al-Iss with fields in the Syrian government-controlled town of al-Hader.

The activists stated that heavy rainfall and military operations previously destroyed the bridges and farmers repaired them two weeks ago to access their fields. The HTS blew up the bridges with explosives, fearing a Syrian government forces advance to its controlled areas.

On April 3, 2016, the HTS gained control of the al-Iss village after clashes with the Syrian government forces. The village is considered the frontline between the two sides and separates them about 5 kilometers from al-Hader.
