Hama - SMART

The price of meat increases by 25 percent in the Syrian government forces-controlled city of Hama, Central Syria.

On Saturday, a meat merchant reported that the price of one kilogram of red meat reached 4,500 Syrian pounds after ranging between 3,500 and 3,600 SYP earlier, adding that the cause was an increase in the price of animal fodder and the costs related to the export of meat.

A local source said that the expensive beef and lamb meat forced people to rely on chicken, which is cheaper and more suitable to their income.

The people of Hama complain about the increasing prices of most basic supplies, such as cooking oil, sugar, bread, school supplies, and other goods. The prices increased due to several reasons, including the frequently opening and closing crossings between Syrian government-controlled areas and those controlled by the Free Syrian Army and Islamist battalions.
