Deir al-Zor - SMART

On Monday, ten young men fled from the Syrian government-controlled areas in the governorate of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria, to Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)-controlled areas, fearing detention by the government forces.

One of the fleeing men reported to SMART that the Syrian government forces stormed their homes in the village of Baqras al-Tahtani near the city of Mayadin to detain although they signed settlement agreements. The young men hid in their relative' homes in the village.

The young men added that they left Baqras al-Tahtani for SDF-controlled areas east of the Euphrates River through the al-Salhia river crossing.

Local sources reported that earlier, about 25 people returned from SDF-controlled areas to the city of Albu Kamal in eastern Deir al-Zor trough the al-Salhiah crossing after they signed settlement agreements with the Syrian government forces. Most of the returning people were elderly and children, according to the sources.

The Syrian government forces launched arrest campaigns in several areas in Deir al-Zor, detaining young men for compulsory military service or on political charges.
