Afrin, Syria - Feb. 14, 2018. Families remain in the village of Deir Ballut in the area of Afrin north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, despite the clashes between the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and the Turkish Army on the one hand and Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) on the other. The Turkish Army and the FSA gained control of the village on Feb. 10. On Jan. 21, the Turkish Army and factions of FSA began a military ground attack as part of the Olive Branch Operation in the area of Afrin, which is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), of which the YPG is the main component. Amid ongoing clashes, they gained control of several villages and strategic hills.
