Manbij, Syria, Apr. 3, 2018. The International Coalition against the Islamic State establishes a military base near the city of Manbij east of Aleppo, Northern Syria, opposite the military bases of Turkey, which currently threaten to storm Manbij. The city of Manbij is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The International Coalition base includes soldiers from Britain, France and the United States. It's established to confront any Turkish attempt to enter the area. Turkey considers the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which is the main component of the SDF, a terrorist organization. Turkey launched a military operation against the YPG in Afrin, and gained control of the area. Turkey also threatens to expel the YPG from the rest of their controlled areas in Syria.
