Douma, Syria, Apr. 8, 2018. Children killed by the Syrian government's chemical massacre in the city of Douma, Eastern Damascus, show signs of inhaling toxic gases. The chemical attack killed dozens and injured over 1,000 civilians. Civil Defense teams were unable to remove the bodies of the dead until hours after the massacre due to the continued shelling. It was difficult to reach the basements where the families had taken refuge. Local and international actors condemn the chemical massacre in Douma, and the United States President Donald Trump described Bashar al-Assad as an animal and vowed to that Assad will pay a "big price" for his actions.
