Aleppo, Syria, June 29, 2018. A horse rears during a horse race organized by the Fajr Association for Arabian horses at the al-Asayel horse racing festival in the village of Ibbin in Southwestern Aleppo, Northern Syria. There are about 500 purebred Arabian horses in the areas outside Syrian government control in the Aleppo, Idlib and Hama governorates. Several of the horses are registered with the World Arabian Horse Organization, and others are not. In August 2017, the Fajr Association organized the second Arabian horse festival in the town of Maasaran, Southern Idlib, to highlight the importance of Arabian horses and the problems that the horse breeders face, such as a lack of horse medicine and vaccines.
