Damascus, Syria, July 10, 2018. The Khan of Asaad Pasha al-Azm is a guest house from the Ottoman era originally catering to caravans and travelers from all over the Middle East. The guest house is located in the al-Buzuryiah historic market in old Damascus. The al-Buzuryiah market is the oldest spice market in Damascus. To the north of the guest house lies the Nour al-Din Zinki public bathhouse, to the south lies the former al-Rez guest house, and to the west lies the former al-Amoud guest house. The Ottoman governor of Damascus built the Asaad Pasha al-Azm guest house in 1751-1753, and it is the largest guest house and a major historic monument in the city. Damascus is home to several historic buildings, markets and squares, most distinguished of which is the Great Umayyad Mosque.
