Amuda, Syria, Aug. 5, 2018. Players in the women's volleyball team in the city of Amuda in al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, warm up. The team holds the country title, but suffers from the lack of support, a court, transport, and sports equipment. The team also suffers from the difficulty of obtaining security approvals to participate in tournaments across Syria. The team won the first place in the National Volleyball Championship, which was held in the city of Tartus last month, competing against eight other teams. The areas of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration-controlled governorate of al-Hasakah host frequent tournaments and sports activities for women due to the calm security conditions in the area. The activities included table tennis and football tournaments for women in the city of al-Qamishli.
