Syrian government forces expand their control over southern Idlib; FSA advances slowly to eastern Idlib

On Wednesday, the Syrian government forces gained control of 16 new villages in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria.

A military source from the National Liberation Front (NLF) of the Syrian National Army said that the Syrian government forces gained control of the villages of Fatterah, al-Dar al-Kabirah, Hazarin, Karsaa, Mazraat al-Ajra, Hasanah, Mazraat Bludan, Lweibdeh, Maarrat al-Mukas, al-Bureij, Hurtah, Ghuri, Baarbu, Sattouh al-Deir, Arinbah and Umm al-Sir.

The Syrian government forces have gained control of 21 villages on Wednesday, as they gained control of five villages on the outskirts of the Shashabo Mountain area in the Idlib governorate earlier.

The Syrian government forces gained control of six villages in the Shashabo Mountain area, northwestern Hama, Central Syria.

Military sources said that the Syrian government forces gained control of the villages of Sahab, Kura, al-Sahriyah, Deir Sunbul, and al-Khalidiyah in the Qalat al-Madiq area, and the village of Gharatha in the Kafr Nabudah area in Hama, after opposition factions withdrew.

The opposition factions gained control of two villages in eastern Idlib, Northern Syria, near the Aleppo-Latakia (M4) highway.

The Syrian government artillery forces shelled a Turkish military convoy in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria. 

Local and military sources reported to SMART that the Syrian government forces stationed in southern Idlib shelled the convoy on the road between the villages of al-Bara and Kansafra.

The casualties of the convoy remained unknown; however, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham media noted that the shelling burnt a Turkish tank.

On Tuesday night, Russian airstrikes killed an Idlib Free Army's fighter and injured other fighters, including commanders, in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria. 

Sources reported to SMART that Russian warplanes bombed a convoy of the Idlib Free Army near the village of Ablin, killing a fighter and inuring five others, including the Idlib Free Army’s Chief of Staff Captain Dumar Qanatri and the field commander Abdul Qader al-Saloum.

On Wednesday, Russian airstrikes killed and injured people in the Zawiya Mountain area in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria.

Local sources reported to SMART that Russian airstrikes killed two civilians, a woman, a 16-year-old child, and two unknown people and injured two others in the village of Arnaba.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey plans to push the Syrian government forces away from its military observation posts in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria, by end-February.

An explosion injured a person in the city of Qatana in Rif Dimashq, Southern Syria.

Local sources reported to SMART that an explosive device planted by unknown persons exploded at the Baath Party building in the city of Qatana, injuring a driver. No information on the injury or the identity of the person were reported.

A landmine explosion injured employees of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in the town of Abu Rasin, 66 kilometers north of al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria. The landmine was planted by unknown persons.
