SYP continues to decline against USD; Deaths from COVID-19 exceed 300,000 worldwide

On Sunday, the Syrian pound continued to decline against the US dollar, exceeding 1,600 Syrian pounds in Syrian governorates.

On Sunday, money exchange shops stopped dealing with the USD after its rate exceeded 1,700 SYP in areas outside Syrian government forces control in Northern and Northeastern Syria. 

The USD exchange rate reached 1,710 SYP in Idlib and the western, eastern, and northern countryside outside Syrian government control, Northern Syria.

An unknown warplane bombed bases of Iranian militias supporting the Syrian government forces in the town of al-Dwair near the city of al-Bukamal, 120 kilometers southeast of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria. The bombings hit other bases in other towns. 

On Sunday, the Syrian businessman, Rami Makhlouf, cousin of the Syrian government President Bashar al-Assad, accused parties affiliated with the Syrian government of putting pressure on him to relinquish the Syriatel mobile network provider company that he owns.

Makhlouf posted a video on his Facebook account saying that certain parties from the Syrian government security forces are threatening him of imprisonment if he did not relinquish his company, adding that he was asked to pay 50 percent of the company’s capital (about 120% of its profit) or the company’s assets will be seized.

On Saturday, the Syrian government’s Health Ministry registered a new case of COVID-19, bringing the total of announced cases in the Syrian government-controlled areas to 51.

On Sunday, the Syrian National Army’s National Liberation Front repelled a Syrian government forces’ attempt to advance in the village of al-Ruwaiha, 25 kilometers south of Idlib, Northern Syria. 

On Saturday, an unknown fire burnt 50 tents in a displaced people’s camp in the Deir Hassan area, 52 kilometers north of Idlib. 

On Sunday, the Response Coordinators Team-Syria documented over 12 cases of fires and poisoning that caused two deaths in less than three weeks in displaced people’s camps in Northwestern Syria.

On Sunday, a landmine explosion killed a civilian near the city of Morek, 27 kilometers north of Hama, Central Syria.


An explosive device, planted by unknown persons, injured two Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) members near the Scientific Research building, southern al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.
