Jaysh al-Ahrar to hand over checkpoints and heavy weapons after agreement with HTS; USA withdraws some military equipment from Syria

In Northern Syria, the Jaysh al-Ahrar of the National Liberation Front and the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) agreed that the Jaysh al-Ahrar hands over heavy weapons and checkpoints on the Syrian-Turkish border to the HTS.

The Salvation Government, which operates in the HTS-controlled areas, announced reopening two crossings that link its controlled areas with other areas controlled by the Free Syrian Army and the Syrian government forces in the Aleppo governorate.

On Friday, the general national security and police forces in the al-Rai area, 45 kilometers northeast of Aleppo, Northern Syria, announced firing the town’s police commander without mentioning the reasons.

The military police of the Interim Syrian Government prevented the family of the activist Rania al-Halabi from visiting her after three days of detention. Al-Halabi was detained in the city of Afrin near Aleppo.

An infant died from hypothermia in a camp near the city of Azaz, 42 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, due to cold weather and the lack of heaters.

Bombing by the International Coalition against the Islamic State (IS) on the town of al-Susah, east of Deir al-Zor, killed a prominent IS commander.

On Friday, the SDF announced the killing of 147 Islamic State (IS) members during battles east of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

Food prices in the city of Albu Kamal increased by 50 percent due to fees imposed by Syrian government forces checkpoints.

Dozens of people demonstrated in the city of al-Tabqah, 43 kilometers west of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, after the Friday prayers, confirming the statement of tribe leaders, which rejected dealing with the Syrian government.

On Friday, a device exploded near the town of al-Karamah, 20 kilometers east of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, injuring two People’s Protection Units (YPG) members.

The United Nations High Commission of Refugees said that they responded to 800, forcibly displaced families in the al-Sad camp near the town of al-Arisha in the al-Hasakah governorate, Northeastern Syria.   

Over the past few days, vegetable prices have doubled in the city of al-Qamishli due to expensive importation costs and the lack of greenhouses in the area to cover the market demand in winter.  

On Thursday, the Sports and Youth Committee of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration organized a women volleyball tournament in the city of Amuda. Ten sports clubs participated in the tournament.

On Friday, Syrian government forces bombing on a residential neighborhood in the city of al-Lataminah, 24 kilometers north of Hama, Central Syria, killed a child and injured her mother.

International and political news:

On Friday, an official at the Pentagon said that the United States had removed some of its military equipment from Syria. The official did not determine a deadline for the withdrawal.

The official declined to elaborate on the type of military equipment involved or where it was removed from due to “security concerns,” according to the Turkish News Agency Anadolu.

Philippe Lazzarini, the United Nations Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Lebanon, said that 70 % of Syrian refugees in Lebanon live below the poverty line.

During a press conference in Geneva, Switzerland, Lazzarini added that the Syrian refugees in Lebanon live in harsh conditions despite the international support and solidarity for the Lebanon situation reached 1.5 billion dollars since the beginning of the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.
