Deir ez-Zor, Syria, May 1, 2018. The Deir ez-Zor military council of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announces that the final phase of the Island Storm campaign against the Islamic State (ISIS) has begun. The council also welcomed the Iraqi forces support of its battles. The commander of Deir ez-Zor military council, Abu Khawla, said that the battle began and clashes took place against ISIS. The battle includes the remaining areas controlled by ISIS in Deir ez-Zor and al-Hasakah. The presence of ISIS is concentrated in four cities, towns and villages south of Deir ez-Zor, including Hajeen, al-Hassan, al-Shaafeh and al-Bagbouz. Furthermore, 22 villages and locations on the administrative border between Deir ez-Zor and al-Hasakah, including Tal-Jaiyr, Tal al-Manakh, Umm Hafour, al-Riymat, Fakah al-Taraf, Fakah al-Shuwaikh, al-Hasu, al-Bawardi, al-Dashishah, and Badia al-Bajari adjacent to Badia al-Sour and up to the Syrian-Iraqi border.
