Al-Raqqa, Syria, Nov. 20, 2018. The al-Raqqa local council provides about two tons of wheat seeds and fertilizers for farmers in the al-Raqqa governorate at a less price than the market. Issa al-Hamadi, the joint deputy-president of the agriculture committee at the local council, said that the council provides wheat seed for 160 Syrian pounds per kilo, while it costs 220 SYP in the market. Wheat production decreased in most Syrian areas due to poor weather conditions and after the Syrian government forces burned farmlands. People fear to lose more farmlands planted with wheat due to farmers’ financial losses after the fires and low selling prices.
