Al-Qamishli, Syria, Dec. 5, 2018. The Democratic Union Party and a women's movement organize a sit-in in the city of al-Qamishli near al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, to express solidarity with the Turkish parliamentarian and member of the Turkish Democratic People's Party, Layla Kouvan. Kouvan has been on hunger strike for about a month to protest Turkey's arrest of members of her party. Kurdish Autonomous Administration parties and institutions regularly organize sit-ins to protest Turkish practices in the Afrin area of Aleppo, which Turkey gained control of eight months ago. Turkey also arrested Kurdish officials, including the founder of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, Abdullah Ocalan, and imprisoned him in Turkey.
