Aleppo, Syria, Jan. 5, 2019. Residents and forcibly displaced people (FDP) in the city of al-Bab, eastern Aleppo, Northern Syria, organize a sit-in to show solidarity with the city of Atarib, western Aleppo. The protesters raised signs condemning the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham's (HTS) attacks on Atarib. An FDP protester, who introduced himself as Abu Subhi al-Ghareeb, said that they urge all factions of the Syrian Revolution to prevent the HTS from attacking the liberated areas. The protesters organized the sit-in after the HTS gained control of most of the western Aleppo countryside and expelled the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement of the National Liberation Front following days of clashes. Atarib is one of the prominent cities that revolted against the Syrian government and HTS. The HTS attempted to storm the city several times, but local residents demonstrated and forced the HTS to withdraw from Atarib. The Syrian government and Russia bombed Atarib many times, killing and injuring dozens of civilians.
