Al-Hasakah, Syria, Jan. 27, 2019. The Swedish mobile broadband provider R-Cell started operating in parts of the al-Hasakah governorate after expanding its services from the Iraqi Kurdistan region with the approval of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration. Abdul Rahim Ahmad, the company’s marketing manager, said that the network covers the cities and towns of al-Malikiyah, Jawadiyah, Qahtaniyah, al-Qamishli and Amuda with 4G mobile data, which is faster than the Turkish and Syrian mobile broadband networks, which only offer 3G data. Several Turkish companies provide Internet services to cities and towns in Syria that are outside Syrian government control. Last year, a Turkish company, in collaboration with local councils, set up cellular towers in Northern and Northeastern Syria.
