Al-Ahrar al-Sharqia gathering clashes with al-Hamzat division in Northern Aleppo
On Sunday, clashes erupted between the al-Ahrar al-Sharqia gathering and al-Hamza division of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the Afrin area (42 kilometers north of Aleppo) in Northern Syria. The clashes killed and injured fighters from both sides.
Local activists reported to SMART that the clashes followed the killing of a military commander of the al-Sharqia gathering after al-Hamzat fighters opened fire on his vehicle in Afrin city. The activists do not know the cause of the tension between the two sides.
The activists noted that the clashes killed two fighters of the al-Hamzat division and further injured others from both sides in the Afrin area and al-Ra`i town. Al-Ahrar al-Sharqia captured 200 of al-Hamzat fighters in Afrin.
Security tensions prevail in the cities of al-Bab and Baza’a, where both sides raised alertness amidst attempts to end infighting, according to the activists.
Frequent infighting occurs between the FSA factions in the Aleppo Northern countryside. Infighting between the FSA factions and the al-Ahrar al-Sham Islamic Movement has also occurred in the area. One faction gaining control of another's headquarters is usually the result of infighting, although they came to a settlement later on.
