Syrian Human Rights Network documents killing and wounding of 38 journalists, and arresting of 12 others in Syria since beginning of 2018

On Wednesday, the Syrian Human Rights Network documented 17 journalists killed, 21 wounded and 12 arrested in Syria since the beginning of 2018 until July.

The network reported that the Syrian government forces killed ten journalists, while the Russian forces, the Islamic State, military factions and the Kurdish Autonomous Administration killed four journalists. Other unnamed parties killed three journalists.

The network explained that the wounded were distributed as follows: nine by the Syrian government forces, eight by Russian forces, one by Autonomous Administration and three by unnamed others.

The network added that it reported 16 cases of arrest, kidnapping and release, including two arrests by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and seven by military factions, including a woman. Two of them were released. The Autonomous Administration arrested one and released later him. The network also reported two arrests by other parties and were later released.

Syria ranked 177 out of 180 countries on the list of press freedom, according to the Reporters without Borders World Press Freedom Report of 2018, followed by three countries - Turkmenistan, Eritrea and North Korea.

On May 6, the Syrian Human Rights Network documented the killing of 29 journalists from the beginning of 2018, until the end of April.
