Rijal al-Karamah faction holds second meeting with Russians in as-Suwayda
On Tuesday, the Rijal al-Karama Faction hold a second meeting with Russians in as-Suwayda in less than a week.
Activists, who are close to the Rijal al-Karama, reported that on Monday, a Russian delegation visited the Rijal al-Karama commander Yahya al-Hajar’s house in the village of Shanira. The activists added that the Russians demanded bedouine clans’ evacuating from Eastern as-Suwayda to the Daraa governorate, Southern Syria; however, the Rijal al-Karamah refused the Russians’ demands.
A source in the Rijal al-Karama’s leadership reported for activists that the reason behind the Russian’s demands refusal is due to fears of procedures that could affect the fate of the women kidnaped by the Islamic State (IS). The source called upon the Russian not propose demands before releasing the kidnapped women.
The Russian delegation renewed calls for al-Hajar to attend a meeting in Damascus; however, al-Hajar refused, stressing that the Religious Leadership for the Monotheistic Druze is the reference and representative in negotiations about the fate of the area.
On Monday, the Rijal al-Karama refused negotiations with Russia before IS releases the kidnapped women from as-Suwayda.
