In press statements, Ryabkov said that Russia called for the emergency session.
Germany and the United States expressed concerns about the developments in Syria, especially in Idlib.
The White House Press Secretary, Sarah Sanders, said that Germany and the US called for UN action to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Idlib.
The spokesman for the German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Russia has to act in a "moderate" manner to prevent further escalation.
Germany and Russia's statements came after the Syrian government sent military reinforcements to the perimeters of the Idlib governorate after the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad announced his intention to seize the governorate by force.
