Angela Merkel: "Germany can't look away if Syria uses chemical weapons"
Turkey - SMART
On Wednesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany could not simply look away if chemical attacks took place in Syria.
During her speech before the House of Representatives, Merkel said that Germany couldn't turn its back on a chemical attack in Syria. She added that Germany's attitude couldn't be to say "no" only, regardless of what happens in the world.
Merkel's statements come amid the refusal of the Social Democratic Party, which joins the ruling coalition, for any military action in Syria unless the United Nations allows the international community to do so, according to the Party's leader, Andrew Nelis.
On Monday, German Defense Minister, Ursula von der Leyen, said that they are considering options for Germany's participation in a military operation against Syrian government forces if they use chemical weapons in Idlib governorate, Northern Syria.
The Syrian government forces and Russia continue to bomb the Idlib governorate using different kinds of the arsenal, killing and injuring dozens of civilians. The bombings also have destroyed a Civil Defense headquarters as well as service facilities and displaced residents.
