Al-Raqqa - SMART
On Thursday, two separate explosions killed and injured members from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Asayish’s Internal Security Force in the al-Raqqa governorate, Northeastern Syria.
A military source from the SDF told SMART that an explosive device blew up in a car carrying members from the Deir al-Zour military council on the road to the town of Hawas east of the city of al-Raqqa. The explosion killed four council members.
Another SDF member told SMART that unknown persons threw a hand grenade at an Asayish patrol in the village of the al-Ajaj west of al-Raqqa, injuring several Asayish members.
The Asayish are the security forces of the Kurdish-majority Autonomous Administration in Northern Syria. Established in 2012, the Asayish currently has around 15,000 members policing the Kurdish-majority region of Syria.
On Tuesday, an explosive device blew up a SDF military vehicle on the road between the city of Ayn Issa, Northern al-Raqqa, and the nearby town of Serrin, Eastern Aleppo, killing a SDF member and injuring others.
The SDF is comprised of predominantly Kurdish multi-ethnic, Arab, and Assyrian/Syriac militias led by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG). The SDF operate mostly in Northern Syria, including al-Raqqa and Deir al- Zor.
