Latakia - SMART

On Tuesday, the Syrian government artillery forces stationed in nearby headquarters shelled outposts in the al-Akrad mountainous area in the Latakia countryside, Western Syria.

Imad Usi, the commander of the Tenth Brigade in the al-Sham Legion belonging to the Free Syrian Army said that the Syrian government forces re-intensified bombings on the Latakia countryside. Usi added that the bombing hit outposts and supply routes without causing injuries.

Usi added that on Monday, the Syrian government forces shelled outposts in the al-Akrad mountainous area. Usi noted that the shelling was focused on the Latakia highway and al-Zaytoona area. Usi said that on Sunday, the Syrian government forces launched a Cornet missile against a vehicle belonging to the Tenth Brigade, injuring three fighters.

Usi added that the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) targeted Syrian government forces’ outposts in the village of Nahshaba, killing eight members and injuring others. Usi noted that the HTS said that the attack came in response to the Syrian government forces’ recent attack on the al-Izzah Army’s outposts in the Hama countryside.

In September 2014, the Civil Defense documented the killing of 14 civilians and injuring 31 others, including women and children following 46 suspected Russian airstrikes against 200 villages and towns in the Jisr al-Shughur area, Western Idlib. Some of the airstrikes hit a street market and three schools.
