On Tuesday, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that more than 2 million children in Syria are not enrolled in any formal education.

More than 2 million children between the ages of five and seventeen have not enrolled in school.  More than 180,000 thousand educational staff, including teachers, have been forced to leave school, according to OCHA’s brief report on its official website.

In Sept 2016, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that about 2.7 million children inside and outside Syria do not go to school.

In areas outside Syrian government control, children live in poor humanitarian and health conditions, amid difficult access to schools and almost complete lack of infrastructure. Some organizations provide part of financial support for school restoration, psychological support, and recreational activities.
