Idlib - SMART

On Saturday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) released the manager of the Sham Hospital Mustafa al-Masri in the city of Kafr Nubl in Idlib, Northern Syria.

The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.

Activists from the city of Qalat al-Madiq, which is al-Masri's hometown, confirmed that the HTS released him after six days of detention.

On Monday, the HTS detained al-Masri and the manager of the 112 Hospital Myrhaf Raadoun and the head of the Free Hama Health Directorate Maram al-Sheikh after storming the directorate's building in Kafr Nubl. The HTS accused the detainees of moral and financial corruption. The HTS released al-Sheikh hours after his detention.

In recent months, the HTS and others have detained and kidnapped several medical staff in the Idlib governorate, leading many medical facilities to announce strikes.
