Idlib - SMART

The Guardians of Religion Organization, which refused the Turkish-Russian demilitarization agreement in Idlib, Northern Syria, announced targeting Syrian government forces locations in Eastern Idlib.

The Guardians of Religion Organization is an armed insurgent group affiliated with al-Qaeda in Idlib. The head of the group, Abu Humam al-Shami, was formerly a member of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the al-Nusra Front. The Guardians of Religion in Idlib are not confirmed to be connected with the organization of a similar name in Ghouta.

The Guardians of Religion stated that they targeted Syrian government forces locations in the villages of al-Sukariyah, Abu Qamis, Tal Azo, Tal Maseitif, al-Khafiah, al-Zahabiah, and al-Baragiti with artillery and missile shells. The shelling caused casualties among the Syrian government forces.

Despite the demilitarization agreement in the Idlib governorate, which was reached between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, shelling and clashes between the Guardians of Religion, the HTS, and other Islamist battalions continue in Eastern Idlib, killing and injuring members on both sides.
