Jordan installs barbed wire along border near Rukban Camp
Homs - SMART
The Jordanian authorities have started to install barbed wire along the earth mounds that separate the Rukban Camp, 240 kilometers southeast of Homs, Central Syria, from the Jordanian border.
Dirbas al-Khalidi, the head of the Rukban Camp's local council, told SMART that the Jordanian authorities have started to install barbed wire along the camp's western and eastern sides for three kilometers, saying that the installation process has not yet been completed.
Al-Khalidi added that the camp's residents have never crossed the earth mounds between the camp and the Jordanian border, saying that the barbed wire will prevent water from reaching the camp. Al-Khalidi also said that the camp's local council has not yet contacted the Jordanian authorities regarding the matter.
The Syrian government forces have been besieging the Rukban Camp since October 2018, preventing food and medical supplies from entering the camp. The camp's management appealed for aid for more than 50 thousand camp residents who live under poor humanitarian conditions. Several children in the camp died from the lack of medicine and health care.
