On Monday, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that "U.S. withdrawal from Syria must be planned carefully and with the right partners."

A day before his meeting with US National Security Adviser, John Bolton, Erdogan said that "The U.S. withdrawal from Syria must be planned carefully and with the right partners, Turkey was the only country “with the power and commitment to perform that task,” according to New York Times.

Erdogan added that "turkey, which has NATO’s second largest standing army, is the only country with the power and commitment to perform that task. Erdogan also said that Turkey was committed to defeating Islamic State and “other terrorist groups.”

On Monday, the White House said that US President Donald Trump had not changed his position on withdrawing U.S. troops from Syria. A day before, the US National Security Adviser, John Bolton added a new condition to the U.S. withdrawal from Syria, saying Turkey must agree to protect the United States’ Kurdish allies, who are seen as enemies by Ankara.

Earlier, the US and Turkish presidents discussed the US decision to withdraw from Syria and fight against the IS, in conjunction with Turkey's declaration of a military operation against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units east of the Euphrates River.
