Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Wednesday, the Syrian Democratic forces (SDF) sent military reinforcements from al-Raqqa, Northeast Syria, to the border with Turkey.

A military source and eyewitnesses told SMART that the reinforcements included 140 fighters launched from the  Kendall square towards the road between al-Raqqa and the city of Tal Abyad, north of al-Raqqa near the Turkish border.

The sources noted that the reinforcements launched coinciding with calls for demonstrations and sit-ins in the al-Raqqa governorate against Turkey.

On Dec 14, 2018, the SDF sent reinforcements from the military base in the town of Ein Issa in al-Raqqa.

On Dec 12, 2018, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country would launch military operations against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units east of the Euphrates River within days. The Kurdish Autonomous Administration announced alert in its areas of control after the Turkish threats.
