Idlib - SMART

The Free Police in the village of Kafrouma in southern Idlib, Northern Syria, announced that it will continue its work despite the suspension of all Free Police forces by the general police command due to the security conditions in the area.

The Free Police operates in areas controlled by the opposition factions.

The Kafrouma Free Police stated that its members will continue to work and serve local residents voluntarily for the public interest, despite the suspension of salaries and support.

The police added that they held a meeting with local dignitaries and the local council and agreed to work together. The police commander undertakes to coordinate with the council on a daily basis.

Earlier, the Free Police departments in the city of Maarrat al-Nu'man, the town of Kafr Takharim, and the village of Maarrat Hermah announced that they will continue their work despite the decision issued by the general police command to suspend the Free Police until further notice. The police in the village of Hazarin announced that it will continue working and implement the decisions of the Salvation Government.

These procedures follow an agreement between the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the National Liberation Front of the Free Syrian Army. The agreement included transfering the control of the governorate of Idlib to the Salvation Government. The agreement also included other items such as replacing the Free Police with the Islamist Police.
