Al-Suwayda - SMART

On Saturday, young men from the city of al-Suwayda, Southern Syria, attacked a Syrian government forces military base after one of the base's members verbally harassed a woman from the city.

Local sources reported to SMART that the young men attacked the Syrian government Signal Corps' base in the al-Qala'a neighborhood and beat the member who harassed the woman.

The sources added that one of the Syrian government forces officers at the base attempted to stop the young men from hitting the member, who was sent to the Maarrat al-Nu'man hospital. In an attempt to stop the attack, Syrian government forces members fired guns into the air to scatter the young men.

The sources did not report if the Syrian government forces detained some of the young men who attacked the base.

In October 2016, people from al-Suwayda called to stop sending girls to schools, protesting verbal harassment incidents by young men from the city.
