Aleppo - SMART

On Monday, the free Aleppo governorate council, Northern Syria, said that it continues to serve the governorate, stressing that it is a civil institution elected by the revolutionary body, and does not belong to any party.

In a statement, the council’s members stressed that the free Aleppo governorate council is a revolutionary civil institution that does not belong to any party. They added that the council continues to serve the governorate and its local councils.

A member of the council reported that they issued this statement due to the conditions and developments in the governorate. The member added that, therefore, they can continue their our work as an elected institution, and aim to serve the people.

The member also said that 41 members of the council approved the resolution, but some of them refused.

Earlier on Thursday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) sent judicial notifications to former administrators of the Revolutionary Authority and the local council of the al-Atarib city, Aleppo, demanding them to be present within hours under accountability.

Earlier, the HTS put pressure on local councils in the region to be part of the Salvation Government. The HTS began to make all the institutions in its areas belong to the Salvation Government after gaining control of the entire area after battles with the Free Syrian Army.
