Maghawir al-Thawra faction arrests former official for sexual assault on girl
Homs - SMART
The Maghawir al-Thawra faction of the Free Syrian Army in the Rukban camp on the Syrian-Jordanian border detained a former official for a sexual assault on a 10-year-old girl.
On social media, activists circulated a video showing a number of armed men arrests the former spokesman of the Maghawir al-Thawra, Muhammad Mustafa al-Jarrah, who was with a 10-year-old girl.
The director of the Maghawir al-Thawra Foreign Media Office, Mamoun al-Hamid, reported that they arrested al-Jarrah on Thursday after the video was published. The security office began investigating the incident.
Al-Hamid stated that al-Jarrah has been dismissed for months from their ranks, but that he worked separately from them in the Rukban camp. Al-Hamid suspected that the video was filmed a few months ago during the summer.
On Friday, the Maghawir al-Thawra issued a statement confirming the detention of the camp's medical officer, Muhammad al-Jarrah, claiming that he was involved in disgraceful behavior.
The statement added that they decided to dismiss al-Jarrah from work immediately to investigate the charges against him, stop his financial dues and arrest him in the camp prison during the investigation period. They will also form a special court to follow up the case.
The camp is home to about 50,000 people, suffering from a lack of livelihood and deteriorating health and education conditions, amidst protests against the failure of humanitarian organizations to provide aid.
