Turkey - SMART

On Sunday, the Russian Army announced that 300 Russian soldiers left Syria after completing their military service in the country.

The Russian Sputnik News Agency reported the spokesman for the Russian Southern Military District, Vadim Astafyev, as saying that about 300 Russian soldiers left Syria after completing their "special service."

Astafyev said that Russian soldiers of the Military Police Battalion 58 returned to their permanent posts in the republic of Dagestan, after "they completed their tasks of protecting public property and maintaining security and order in Syria successfully."

Russia is considered the main political and military supporter of the Syrian government against the Free Syrian Army and Islamist battalions. Russia has used the veto 11 times in the United Nations Security Council against resolutions that condemned the Syrian government's use of chemical weapons and other war crimes.
