HTS infiltration attempt kills Syrian government forces members in western Aleppo
Aleppo - SMART
The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) attempted to infiltrate the village of Menian, west of Aleppo, Northern Syria, killing four Syrian government forces members.
The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.
On Monday, a military source from the HTS reported to SMART that the HTS members infiltrated Syrian government forces bases on the perimeter of the village on Sunday night. The HTS clashed with the Syrian government forces, killing four members of the latter, while the HTS fighter withdrew to their bases.
Local activists reported that the infiltration operation coincided with artillery shelling by the Syrian government forces on the village of Alloush, the military academy, Jamiat al-Zahraa, the town of Zamar and the village of al-Mansourah, damaging property.
On Dec. 15, 2018, an HTS missile shelling on the village of Tal Mamo in southern Aleppo killed and injured Syrian government forces members.
In recent weeks, infiltration attempts by the Syrian government forces and Islamist battalions have become common in the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama after the implementation of the Turkish-Russian ceasefire agreement. The infiltration attempts mostly resulted in killing and injuring members of both parties.
