Deir al-Zor – SMART
On Thursday, a convoy made up of civilians and Islamic State (IS) members left IS-controlled areas to those controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The SDF protected the convoy.
Eyewitnesses said that the convoy was made up of 250 vehicles transporting women, children and IS members. The eyewitnesses added that the convoy left the village of al-Baghouz and headed to the village of Bariha in sight of United States forces patrols.
A video showed trucks and civil vehicles transporting luggage and other unidentified goods.
SDF-affiliated media outlets reported that the SDF liberated 150 civilians, including three Yazidis, one of whom is a child. The Yazidis are from the Shankal area in Northeastern Iraq.
The SDF is trying to expel the IS from its last territory in Deir al-Zor. On January 23, 2019, the SDF gained control of the village of al-Mouzan after controlling the town of al-Susah.
