HTS repels Syrian government forces infiltration attempt, southeastern Idlib
On Thursday night and Friday morning, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) repelled a Syrian government forces infiltration attempt near the village of Halban, southeastern Idlib, Northern Syria.
The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.
Activists reported that HTS’ fighters ambushed Syrian government forces as they attempted to infiltrate opposition factions’ outposts in the area. The activists added that clashes using light and medium weapons followed the ambush, killing and injuring Syrian government forces members.
On Wednesday, the National Liberation Front that includes Free Syrian Army’ and Islamist battalions’ factions killed Russian soldiers as they attempted to infilitrate southeastern Idlib.
Syrian government forces attempted to infiltrate the area despite the ceasefire agreement that followed the Syrian government forces’ significant advance and controlling important cities and towns, southern Idlib and northern Hama such as the city of Khan Sheikhoun, town of al-Tamani’a, and village of al-Habit. Syrian government forces controlled the entire northern Hama countryside and laid siege to the Turkish ninth observing base in the city of Mourek.
