Tartus - SMART
A traffic accident killed and injured Russian soldiers and civilians in the al-Qadmus area, 35 kilometers northeast of the city of Tartus, Central Syria.
Pro-Syrian government media channels reported Tartus’ police chief as saying that on Wednesday, an accident of a Russian military vehicle and a minivan killed a Russian soldier, two Syrian civilians, and injured seven people, including two Russian soldiers.
The police chief added that the Russian military vehicle crashed into the minivan near the village of Barmaia on the road between the town of al-Qadmus and the city of Baniyas, assuming that the accident occurred due to high speed or a defect in the Russian vehicle.
Media sources speak about the spread of Russian forces and missile air defense systems in mountains of the al-Qadmus area.
In September 2015, Russia started its direct military intervention in Syria under the pretext of fighting terrorism. Most Russian air raids targeted cities, towns and Free Syrian Army bases, killing and injuring thousands of people most of them civilians.
