FSA factions kill and injure Iranian militias’ fighters, western Aleppo
Aleppo - SMART
On Saturday night, Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions killed and injured Iranian militias’ fighters during a failed attempt to infiltrate FSA-controlled areas in western Aleppo, Northern Syria.
An FSA military source, who prefered to remain anonymous, reported to SMART that a group from the Iranian backed- Liwaa al-Mudafi’een Militia tried to infiltrate a building near the village of Kafr Taal. The source added that clashes erupted between the FSA and the militia for two hours, killing three fighters of the militia and injuring six others. The source did not mention the FSA casualties.
The militia tried to infiltrate the area despite the ceasefire agreement reached by the Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Idlib. The agreement entered into force at 00:01 on March 6, 2020.
Before the ceasefire agreement, the Syrian government forces and loyalist militias, supported by Russia, were launching a ground military attack on the southern and eastern countryside of Idlib and the southern and western countryside of Aleppo. The Syrian government gained control of dozens of villages and towns in the region, after intense shelling. The shelling killed and injured hundreds of civilians, and displaced hundreds of thousands of others.
