Aleppo - SMART

On Monday night, air raids by unknown warplanes on Syrian government forces bases in the Aleppo governorate, Northern Syria, killed and injured officers.

Private sources reported to SMART that unknown warplanes raided the Defense Lab in the al-Safirah area, burning three warehouses and a military depot.

The sources added that a similar air raid targeted the Kuweires military airbase and infantry military academy, east of the city of Aleppo, burning fuel tanks and munition warehouses, as firefighting teams are working on putting down the fire.

Syrian government media outlets reported that unknown warplanes coming from northeast of the town of Ithriya, eastern Hama, targeted Syrian government forces military warehouses in al-Safirah with missiles. The media outlets did not clarify the nature of the warehouses and casualties due to the shelling.

The Syrian government media did not directly accuse Israel of conducting the raids.

On Jan. 21, 2019, the Israeli Intelligence Minister, Israel Katz, said Israel in facing direct confrontation with Iran and that Israel will not allow Iran to stay in Syria, while the Iranian General, Aziz Nasirzadeh, responded, “We are wholeheartedly prepared to fight Israel.”

On Mar. 31, 2020, missile shelling targeted the Sha’irat military airport in Homs and the Syrian government accused Israel of conducting the attack.

Israel has targeted Syrian government forces bases and Iranian convoys and bases in Syria. On Jan. 15, 2019, Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, said, "I'm telling you, get out of there fast. We won’t stop attacking."
