Daraa - SMART

On Thursday, clans and dignitaries of the Daraa governorate, Southern Syria, vowed to fight the Syrian government forces and Iranian militias if they tried to storm any area in the governorate.

The clans and dignitaries issued a statement saying that they reject that the Syrian government forces and Iranian militias brought in and deployed reinforcements outside military bases. The statement warned against threatening to storm any area in Daraa, adding that this will spark an uprising in Houran.

The statement added that the dignitaries and clans oppose killings, assassinations, and kidnappings, holding the perpetrators personally responsible. The statement demanded Russia to undertake its responsibilities as a guarantor towards the developments in the area.

Daraa Clans Council, Daraa al-Balad Committee, Central Committee of the western area, al-Jaydour tribes and dignitaries, dignitaries of the eastern area, and all Houran committees inside and outside Syria signed the statement.

On Thursday, hundreds of people demonstrated in the cities of Daraa and Tafas, 13 kilometers west of Daraa, as Syrian government forces' military reinforcements arrived in the governorate.

Earlier, unknown persons kidnapped nine Syrian government forces' police men from the police station in the town of al-Muzayrib after storming it on May 4, 2020. The unknown persons executed the police men and left their bodies near the al-Ghabsha roundabout in al-Muzayrib.

The Syrian government forces gained control of the entire Daraa governorate after Russia reached agreements with the Free Syrian Army factions. The agreements stated handing over weapons, ceasefire, and the evacuation of those who reject the agreements to Northern Syria. The agreements provided guarantees that the Syrian government does not arrest those who decided to remain in Daraa.
