Daraa - SMART

On Saturday, the Syrian government forces shelled the outskirts of al-Yadudah village, 8 kilometers northwest of Daraa, Southern Syria, with artillery shells.

Local sources reported to SMART that the Syrian government forces stationed in the al-Sero checkpoint, north of the town of Athman, shelled the outskirts of al-Yadudah with four artillery shells.

The sources stated that the Syrian government forces shelled the outskirts of the village after they monitored a bulldozer operating next to a house, as they thought it was digging trenches, in preparation to repel any attack by the Syrian government forces. However, they discovered that the bulldozer was removing accumulated waste near the house.

The sources added that one of the shells hit a nearby house and the other three shells hit farmland, without causing any casualties.

In a meeting with representatives of the central committees in Southern Syria about 24 hours before the shelling, a Russian delegation confirmed that the Syrian government forces have no intention of storming areas in Daraa.

On May 14, 2020, clans and dignitaries of the Daraa governorate vowed to fight the Syrian government forces and Iranian militias if they try to storm any area in the governorate.

On May 14, 2020, hundreds of people demonstrated in the cities of Daraa and Tafas, as Syrian government forces' military reinforcements arrived in the governorate.

Earlier, unknown persons kidnapped nine Syrian government forces' police men from the police station in the town of al-Muzayrib after storming it on May 4, 2020. The unknown persons executed the police men and left their bodies near the al-Ghabsha roundabout in al-Muzayrib.

The Syrian government forces gained control of the entire Daraa governorate after Russia reached agreements with the Free Syrian Army factions. The agreements stated handing over weapons, ceasefire, and the evacuation of those who reject the agreements to Northern Syria. The agreements provided guarantees that the Syrian government does not arrest those who decided to remain in Daraa.
